Underseal removal part I

Got the car up on jackstands yesterday and could start on the not so pleasing work of removing tons of old undercoating. Yuck! These are the weapons of choice for this task:

The Bosch multitool actually works great with the scraper head addon. Much better than the heat-gun and scraper approach that i've seen other people use.
Maybe the heat-gun works better on newer not-so-hard undercoating as on this car.
Some of the stuff that came off after 15 min or so of scraping..

Nice to see the original paint for a change, not just rust and fiberglass

The frame-rail did not look too bad, there might be hope for this car too :)

Dismantling part II

Got the backseat and last of the interior out of the way..
After removing som old hardened sound deadening plates the bare primed metal showed up.

Actually a little less rust than expected under the rubber plates.

Another one of those nifty repairs with glue, screws and wooden fiber plate..NICE WORK!

Some extra ventilation is never a bad thing..

Dismantling part II

Finally got those snap off steering column screws out.
Took just 5 minutes and a couple of fresh drill bits..
 Me 2 - bolts 0

Dahsboard out of the way.
Nice to get som workspace, more rust round the firewall edges!

Also got the floor mats and sound dampening out of the way. It actually didn't look as bad as expected.
A couple of holes on both sides over the crossmembers and jack points, but nothing major.

Some earlier "repairs" with screws and fiber board. Original! :)

My daily runner getting some new brake rotors at front..

Dismantling part I

Some interior removal.
Getting the seats out was a fast and easy job. Just 3 bolts holding each seat, and they came out easy :)
The floor pans didn't look too bad actually. Let's hope there's no more surprises under the sound deadening mats..

Also tried to get the dashboard out.

But some #"¤% bolts holding the steering column to the dashboard have no heads.
Some kind of special "shear-off" bolts used to prevent people ever getting them out.
Have to get some new drill bits to get these hardened b..tards out!

windshield removal

Removed the windshield yesterday evening. Actally a fast and easy job as all the clips that was supposed to hold the chrome surrounding was totally rusted into particles. Some sticky goo round the edge but it went out in about 30 minutes. No more surprises under there, except some more "potato chips". It was actually in better condition than i expected :-) Some bad spots in the upper corners.

Stripping and rust digging Part I

Finally got myself a garage to start looking into this heap of rust:)
And i find more of this stuff wherever i dig. Managed to dig in a new "air vent" under the right rear light holder.
